Exercise as We Age - From the NIH

A recent article in the Annapolis Capital (,0,3805604.story) regarding the importance of balance referred to exercise guidance from the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Sure enough, the NIH National Institute on Aging (NIA) has released a DVD with suggested exercises for older adults. To quote the site "Regular exercise and physical activity are important to the physical and mental health of almost everyone, including older adults. Being physically active can help you continue to do the things you enjoy and stay independent as you age. Regular physical activity over long periods of time can produce long-term health benefits. That's why health experts say that older adults should be active every day to maintain their health."

Yes, it does require a commitment of time and energy as well as discipline to fit planned exercise into our daily routine. And the benefits are enormous. If you would like to explore the NIA's recommendations and pick up the guidance literature, go to the link for the My Go4Life  program.

And, if interested in ordering the no cost DVD, go to You do not have to "join" the My Go4Life online support in order to order the DVD.
